From the castled walls of Conwy and with many fingers to point at the many wrongs within our society, these grind ‘n’ rollers have made a statement of intent. The Core Assumptions Of Human Insecurity (or TCAOHI for short) takes things up a level from their (many) previous releases. That dirty unrelenting sound is still there, although with better separation, and a tighter feel as they seer through the misgivings of this day and age.More

While the rest of the UK alternative music scene seems to have bounced back after Lockdown parties etc, North Wales dragged its heels. Attendances have been as sparse and sporadic as the gigs themselves, with only Rhyl hanging on for dear life while everywhere else has been pretty dead. The avid among us sought sonic solace in Chester, Liverpool and Manchester. Hopefully a buck to that trend is about to begin. Conwy is a beautiful town halfway along the coast, situated within the walls of a majestic medieval castle. It is renowned for its real ale pubs and famous for the residents’ uproar that prevented Brexitspoons opening up and ruining the vibe. The Comrades Club was a regular (if unlikely) host of hardcore punk gigs (pre-Covid), until someone moved into a flat nearby, complained about the noise, and… yes, you get this all-too familiar story.More

Round 2 of that crazy punk thing that happens at The Pavilion in Colwyn Bay. Fair play, with it being a bank holiday weekend and lots going on, there was still a decent turnout.


Football, paella and Hobgoblin put us on the back foot, and the early start time meant we sadly missed South Wales punk band The Woodsman. I’m listening to their EP ‘Castle Of Unrest’ right now on Bandcamp and am so disappointed to have missed out on their cool sound. Really distinct voice and great lyrics.

From Londonium, Monkish are on gig #3 of a four date mini-tour and brought the lighter side of life with them (and practice amps). A drummer, bassist (in his underpants), vocalist and THREE guitarists (although you could only hear one of them) gave us a feel good pub rock punk rock lavatorial performance. Subject matter raised some serious points like, 17p For A Freddo and Toilet Nazi. Good fun.More

NEW RELEASE – Emissaries Of Syn – Compliance Or Defiance Compilation (Bonus Tracks)

Those grinding crusty punks of Conwy – Emissaries Of Syn have a new (old) release. They’ve issued bonus tracks previously unavailable on bandcamp.
Slate, as some of you will recall is a retake on their ‘hit’ The Slate Is Not Clean which is about the workforce at Penrhyn Castle (Bangor). In the late 19th Century they were virtually enslaved and paid in tokens that could only be spent at the castle’s chosen outlets. Here, the track has been cleverly doctored by Philadelphia’s Carl Kavorkian aka Manikineter to great effect.

The band looked closer to home for Ethics and requested that Bangor’s industrial waste master, Skinflick warped their live favourite The Only Way Is Ethics. Again, to great effect… It’ll blister your ears.

Emissaries Of Syn have a track or two coming out on compilation albums soon, and they have recently demoed new material with a threat of release to darken the coming months.
