Neil Crud On TudnoFM – Show #119
The Groceries is effectively everything else that Alan Holmes does that isn’t a collaboration, well, almost. His recorded output is, and has been so prolific over the past three decades that it’s very hard to collate it all into some sort of order. That’s exactly how he likes it. When you think of Alan’s projects past and present you can only be awestruck – Third Spain, Fflaps, Ectogram, Spectralate, Serpents, Normal Shed Uses, Boreas Gogledd just to name a few. Add his production credits to Gorkys Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals, his record labels Central Slate and Turquoise Coal and you get half the picture.
So to finally pin him down in session was an honour and I knew we’d been blessed with something outside the norm…

Top project, The Groceries. Did some good works for R-bennig many moons ago, and a film score? Alan deserves so much more for his contribution to alt Welsh culure. I can’t even sample a Sitar well let alone play one! Great stuff.. xx Johnny R/Aurbennig

Very kind of you Mr R. I did in fact mix in a couple of elements from out-takes from those soundtracks during the session.

AH! Similar ‘economic exploitation ethos’ as myself! You once told me that it would be cool to do a whole LP of one track, which I took on board for my next CD LP which contains an ‘Opus’ of Aurbennig’s ‘Lon Spite Inn’ 10 versions. https://youtu.be/SQLV2WHUf6k I feel one of the best you ever did was Cody and the Machine Elves with Paul Fletcher, stunner that.. I now understand what Machine Elves are! Keep it up!! JR
