In April of this year I saw IDLES play at ‘Gorilla’ in Manchester on the ‘Unity’ tour, it was a small venue with a capacity of around 500, it was absolutely rammed in there, the gig was mental and I wrote in my review afterwards that the band wouldn’t be playing venues this size next year due to their ever rising popularity. Long before that night I was telling everyone and anyone who would listen that IDLES were about to go big!

Friday becomes Saturday with an overnight thunderstorm (that a lot of people slept through) and my notebook for today is empty… Half hungover – half drunk you just go with the flow, chancing upon bands, perusing the stalls, missing bands you wanted to see, basking in the sun, sheltering from the rain, eating, drinking, dancing and skanking with friends and family, and talking nonsense to complete strangers – that is what Bearded Theory is all about.More

Early last year I was scrolling through music links posted by various friends on Facebook when I happened upon Idles (pic above & below by Lindsay Melbourne) and the video for ‘Mother’, I think it was singer Joe Talbot’s pink suit that caught my eye but that was just the start of it. The song smacked me straight between the eyes and I was soon ploughing through more links on YouTube to find out more about the band. I purchased their debut album ‘Brutalism’ immediately and I promised myself that I would go and see them live at the earliest opportunity!
