It’s not often I foray into Rhyl these days, although I did so the previous week among a few hundred Kilmarnock fans who had descended upon us from Thray Bonnie Scotland. They were here to support their team against the mighty Connah’s Quay (match played at Rhyl’s ground) and it’s a pity tonight’s gig wasn’t week earlier. Had it been then the Scots would’ve had a hardcore education thanks to Eye Licker and Morvo.More
Fresh from the recent Easter alldayer at The Pot, Manchester’s Eye Licker make the precarious mid-week journey back into the Badland that is Rhyl. Unfortunately for the bands tonight, their chosen date is sandwiched in a month of heavy gigging so only the hardcore of our posse had the stamina to venture out after doing their homework. Fortunately for we – the Hard Core – both bands were on top form and bursting with punk rock goodness.More
Rhyl is currently quite notorious for non-attendees. Once the hub of all things bright and musical during the Breeding Ground, Dudley Arms and Bar Blu days things have nosedived over the years with venues and bands struggling to justify the efforts involved in hosting gigs.
There are still great nights going on, but with so much choice for gig goers it’s easy to see a band ‘next time’. So today it was heartwarming to have a good attendance from the word Go and a pile of great bands to boot.
