GIG REVIEW – Boycott The Baptist, Indoctrinate, Emissaries Of Syn @ The North, Rhyl

Boycott The Baptist
are the only band I’d ever sign a Grindcore pre-nup with and the only band who could assume my beverage and get away with it… The reason being, they are simply wonderful. They are out there on their own in terms of nonsensical material that makes perfect sense, delivered in brutal fashion. On a UK tour with Indoctrinate, they are a two-man mission to put you in a position of compromise with their sarcasm, wit and ability to punch your lights out with their (usually) less than a minute blasts. That sixty seconds or so usually contains 45 seconds of feedback then a fifteen second Panzer attack of the senses… Simply blissful.

GIG REVIEW – 2 Sick Monkeys, Feral Existence, Emissaries Of Syn, Spam Javelin @ Stö, Leipzig

We gatecrashed this gig as our Nuremburg dates had fallen through. Europe is actually a lot bigger than it is on the map! Drove through the day from Podbor in the Czech Republic to land in Leipzig; the New Berlin (I’m told).
Stö is a squat venue; the whole street is a squat. Great set-up and really nice people. Good to see Pete Butler of 2 Sick Monkeys again, and good to see him looking so well. The generosity of the venue was wonderful – free food, free beer, the offer of somewhere to sleep and money for fuel – and us being complete strangers.

A long time mantra for me and by extension the band has been “go places, meet people, do things”. Following this philosophy seems to happily lead to an exponential and tangential myriad of occasions and opportunities to live life loud in locations esoteric and exotic.

GIG REVIEW – Boycott The Baptist, Emissaries Of Syn, Spam Javelin, Teeth Crack @ Cross Foxes, Prestatyn

“While sinking a few pints on a quiet Sunday evening, the blue skies over Prestatyn were split by a raucous, discordant tide of glorious punk rock. Following the rapid guitar, vocal angst and screaming drums, I found myself, drink in hand, nodding ferociously to the sounds of Spam Javelin and Boycott The Baptist. A large group of baying punters packed the pub’s makeshift barn, a perfect venue to be gleefully terrorised by this incessant and glorious sound. I was happy to be among them.”

This is what makes us tick… I say ‘us’ as in real people who go out and watch live music, who support it and the causes involved. Today is an exception, as in, it was exceptional… What a great day!

Eleven bands, eleven great performances and several sore heads. Despite the fact that promoter Mark Watson-Jones was only made aware of the archaic 11pm closing for this Bank Holiday Sunday on the morning – a swift re-jig of stage times and even swifter changeovers ensured everyone got to play.
