Thursday, August 20th finds me in Bangor’s Crosville Club. If you’ve never been inside before, imagine someone has overturned a galleon and has decided to throw a party in its upturned carcass. It’s German beer hall-long, with great acoustics that carry noise with such amazing clarity. As the bands set up and the people come in, the atmosphere becomes one that is geared towards live events: the more people, the greater the sound is.

Focus Wales 2015 @ Wrexham (Friday)

Today is when it starts getting serious – Day 3 and the weekend is here. All the venues are in full swing, little sub-festivals on the go, folk, comedy, DJs, spoken word, art, beer! Fringe gigs taking place and kebab throwing competitions and brain curdling karaoke (which has nothing to do with Focus, that’s just Wrexham!).

Doll Circus, Nexxus Empire, Mexican Walking Fish @ Crosville Club, Bangor

Back to the monthly band night here after last month playing to a couple of handfuls of people, it was pleasing to see the place pretty full this time, despite the wintry evening. Perhaps that was the collective followers of the varied bill or just a good sign that people would make the effort for this regular event.

‘Doll Circus? Who the fuck are they…?’ Asked Sion Sebon as we clashed supermarket trolleys. The former Anhrefn front man can be excused however as Pentraeth’s Doll Circus are very new to the local scene, with this being only their sixth gig.
