Bearded Theory Festival @ Catton Hall, Derbyshire

Eight years in and this was my first Bearded Theory festival, and what a great little event it is… So good, I’m at pains to tell you about it… Wanna keep it as our little secret… Not too big like some overblown corporate driven shite. Still humble enough to cater for you and not their pockets.

Buzzcock
I remember many many moons ago when I was a young 14 year old punk upstart listening to The Buzzcocks album ‘Love Bites’ on my old record player in my bedroom when my dad came in and said to me “what’s that rubbish you are listening to?”
Buzzcocks of course….
”Bloody noisy lot, these won’t last 5 minutes!”
Well 38 years after forming in Bolton in 1976 the Buzzcocks are still here and going strong! It became a long standing joke every time they released a new album I would say to my dad “do you want a copy of the new Buzzcocks album, they’re still going you know!”

Damned
Day Two in the Rebellion House and Neil’s liver is already complaining… I needed to find a hairy dog (‘Plenty in Blackpool’ shouted the heckler at the back!). Tim felt the same and we needed to be indecently assaulted.

Rebellion Festival 2012, Blackpool – Thursday

THURSDAY
Bags packed, basil plant sent to the babysitter, everything unplugged except the fridge. Tune on, turn in and fuck off… Blackpool here we come. This is the one time of year where Blackpool takes a breather from the hoardes of pissed up stag and hen nights, and relaxes, safe in the knowledge that thousands of cider swigging punks won’t be trying to kill everyone on sight. That’s the difference with the punk family; we are, in essence a family… Yes there are dickheads, but the majority of us were brought up on that same philosophy – have a good time, but cause the least suffering possible, it is almost the Hippy way but without being a stoned wanker all the tIme.

“Feeling like I’m almost sixteen again”!  That’s the lyrics to one of the early “Buzzcocks” songs & tonight I know what they mean!
