Cometh the day, cometh the hour… Focus Wales is once again upon us, and like last year, the opening night is condensed into one venue (with two stages).
The venue being Central Station and a strict thirty minutes per band policy ensures the live music is relentless, as the stages alternate and also ensures each band will pack only their best output. No mid-set lull, no pratting about… Your mother will be thankful; she’s just been Wham Bammed!More

The deadbeats and the dispossessed crawl out for a final Christmas Kick Off before the day our lord Jesus Christ was born to save us all from paedo-priests, crazed religious psychopaths and the human race in general (thank you Jesus – you’re fired!).

New EP – Blood Lips – Brittle Bones

Opening track Heartbeats from this very exciting new band is almost Shakespearian in its delivery… You can imagine singer (Dave Thomas?), he has black contact lenses and is wrapped in soiled bandages. He’s stood on a dark stage in a dusty theatre, acting out this song, all the songs.. Lamenting his misgivings by the gallon…
This may give you a Gothic image, but on listening you’ll realise there’s a barrage of guitars and drums pushing that mournful soul to the edge of sanity… And on the track Death Grip, sanity is tipped over the edge and is in screaming free fall… (ace)….
Blood Lips are special, they have special needs… Feed their fears, pay for their straitjackets, buy this EP today – it’ll whet an appetite that’ll need soaking once you’ve heard it.

Gigs of this sort of – bubbling-under-the-NME-radar – size in Chester and Wrexham are a step up from what we are accustomed to down the coast. That is for varying reasons and these things tend to come in waves… The North East of Wales is currently dripping in quality bands and people eager to see them live, hence the need to travel on occasion to see bands of this ilk and hence the number of people crammed into The Compass tonight. These said artistes do wander into the badlands, but it’s a bit like Russian Roulette as to whether they’ll get an audience or not, and in some cases they’ll turn up and there’ll be no gig at all!More
