Focus Wales – Wrexham (Wednesday)

By |April 23rd, 2014|0 Comments

I wandered around the empty streets at 6pm on this Wednesday afternoon. All the shops are closed and the hundreds of death-by-kebab houses prepare for an evening of trade and tirade. The silence is broken by an endless charade of dumb boy racers with their loud exhausts, forever circling the town looking for prey to show off to.

Hardcore in Prestatyn? On a Wednesday night? What madness is this?! Now don’t get me wrong there are events going on in Prestatyn all the time but not of this quality. After all this has Bastions as its headliner on a warm up gig before their 14 date European tour with Battle For Paris. Certainly it was a cracking line up formed by the new boys in Dirty Vultures Promotions.

Murky midweek mayhem, with an excellent line-up presented on the doorstep by the newly founded Dirty Vultures Promotions. Their previous connections to funtimes at Speakers Corner in Colwyn Bay had enabled the persuasion of this return (close to) home for the much travelled and currently disparately located Bastions. Having seen the venue many times passing on the train as it is right next to the station it seemed ingrained in my memory but when inside and seeing the pretty decent set up in there I figured I may well not have actually been there before. There’s not the best of turnouts for a gloomy Wednesday but vibe is still good.

Probably one the best packaged albums I’ve ever seen, and the music ain’t that bad either! (Neil Crud)

A night put on by Condate Records, presumably some kind of Roman road connection bringing them from Northwich to Deva. My route here was aided by Dave Whales in his tour tank along the A55 and though I think we arrived to miss the first band there was still plenty of people here early on.
