Neil Crud On TudnoFM – Show #124

By |September 10th, 2018|0 Comments

Scotch Funeral is Adam James of Rhyl… Although now based in Manchester ‘you can take the lad out of Rhyl etc…’ His grating, yet great voice is equally matched by his great, yet grating songs and tonight we had a couple of exclusives from his forthcoming EP ‘The Screaming Moon’ (on Da Iawn Recs Oct 25th). Check out his excellent back catalogue on bandcamp
This is Scotch Funeral’s second session for the show…

GIG REVIEW – 2 Sick Monkeys, Rabo De Toro, Emissaries Of Syn, Maines, Spam Javelin @ The Marine, Old Colwyn

By |September 7th, 2018|0 Comments

Tonight’s (almost) stellar line up of 2 Sick Monkeys, Rabo De Toro, Emissaries Of Syn, Maines, Spam Javelin was quite mouthwatering. This was reflected by the numbers in attendance here in the backroom of The Marine Hotel in Old Colwyn. The early start did not hinder the figures, with attendees not having yet latched on to the Manchester / Liverpool trend of turning up late to avoid the support acts… No supports here though, no room for egos in our punk scene…
As I’ve reviewed four the bands several times and play in the other one, I’d best leave it to Rich Phillips to described the evening…

Neil Crud On TudnoFM – Show #123

I saw Mike West play to literally five of us and the soundman a couple of months ago. We all do those kind of gigs from time to time. His bounding voice and cool songs prompted me to scrounge a copy of his ‘Rusted EP’ and invite him to play a live session on the show.

EXCLUSIVE – Unseen Pics Of The Ruts in North Wales

By |August 28th, 2018|0 Comments

Paul Mattock (pic above in Feb13) is the calm, mild-mannered drummer for the insanity that is Rabo De Toro, he was also the original drummer of the seminal punk band The Ruts.
They formed in August 1977, as Paul explains; ‘Punk happened. Malcolm [Owen] really got into it and started writing punk songs with Paul Fox. It started out as a bit of a laugh. Dave Ruffy fancied himself as a bass player and I played the drums. We got some cheap studio time and went in and recorded some of the songs, Lobotomy, H Eyes and In A Rut (listen here). As soon as we played In A Rut, we knew it could be a hit. It was from this track that we got the name The Ruts.
