NEW EP – ADAM WALTON – Mary Sees UFO’s
While Mary has been looking for unidentified flying objects Adam Walton has been putting together this cool new EP.
‘Mary Sees UFO’s’ is five acoustic tracks that display a maturity to his previous ‘man and guitar’ output. Both the sound and the sleeve take me to the post-Syd, pre-Dark Side era of Pink Floyd – whether this is intentional I do not know, but it certainly is not a bad thing.
Summer and hope are shining through the mournful cracks in the songs, particularly in the beautiful Have You Seen Lyra Today? Intricate attention has been paid to the guitar work and placements and the subtle dazed spaced-out production. The title song is in a similar vein and I love the ending that leaves you hanging there.
This is a far cry from the hard sound of Adam’s moddish Mold band The Immediate, and needs filing seperately from the long running project as he sometimes uses The Immediate platform to promote this solo work.
You Can’t Answer To Some Sort Of Authority That You Don’t Even Know Who They Are is worth the entry fee for the title alone. I’m trying to work out who the ‘talker’ is throughout…*
The Hills Will Hold You Know is more melancholy (if that’s possible) and personal.
Some this EP will form a vinyl album ‘Afal’ later this year. Can’t wait for the proper EP release on April 23rd so I don’t have to listen to the Soundcloud ads (I hate adverts).
- – Adam Walton says, ‘It’s Elliott Smith talking. Snippets of the interview I did with him 20 years ago this month (April 3rd 2000). I’d been listening to his music a lot at the start of lockdown and then found the audio of the interview a couple of weeks ago.’
