NEWSROUND – March 2020
Scoops from the link2wales newsdesk….
From Conwy, Maines have finally set a release date for their 2nd EP… ‘Spring’ comes out on CD and bandcamp on March 27th and they’re playing a rare gig at The Saddle in Chester on Fri 13th March with fellow Conwy mercenaries Emissaries Of Syn and Manchester noiseniks Marw.
On the Emissaries Of Syn frontline, things have been gathering pace with the 12″ release of their ‘International Split’ EP shared with Boston’s Psycho and Moscow’s MxAxMxA. The vinyl costs have also been shared with a host of labels including link2wales records and The Emissaries’ own Pyrrhic Defeat – and the launch will be at the Chester gig with Maines.
Pyrrhic Defeat (run by Mark Watson-Jones of EoS) have three 7″ releases planned from Better Reality / Dad (split EP), Dissidents and System of Slaves.
Mark also hosts the Marine-Core gigs at The Marine in Old Colwyn and coming up are headline slots from Goatburner (20th Mar), Anti-System (28th Mar) and Cress (25th Apr).
Link2wales Records have the long awaited and long overdue vinyl compilation album project with Goldsmiths called ‘Keeping It Rhyl’ emerging this spring, as well as the the second album from Penmachno’s protest punk-folkers Red Or Dead. ‘Anarchy Is Liberty’ will be out on CD on March 20th and they are playing at The Shiloh, Cwm Penmachno (14th Mar), Welsh Labour Conference (23rd May).
Later in the year Spam Javelin will be releasing their 2nd album, that they are about to start recording at Orange Studios in Penmaenmawr – the band are playing a couple of gigs with Northern Ireland skate punks Gas Hands at The Jacaranda, Liverpool (Tue 10th Mar) and The Millbank, Rhyl (Wed 11th Mar).
In Bangor, things are always moving at a pace thanks to the efforts of James Phillips and Co. Gigs at The Skerries are as follows; Eye Licker, Cow (7th Mar), Kill Trev, Lolfa Binc (20th Mar) and Open Mic every Sunday. (Keep an eye out for the Curiad Pulse Festival in May).
James Phillips is also finishing off a new solo album (with the help of ex-Ectogramian, Alan Holmes). Entitled ‘Spite, Bile & Beauty’ it will be released on Alan’s Turquoise Coal label in Spring.
Cow, featuring Dyserth raised, but Liverpool based Kyle Lee, are also playing at Getintothis, L’pool (Mar 19th) and Handyman’s, L’pool (28th Mar). Check out their new EP ‘All My Friends Are Dead To Me.’ They have plans for a single in early summer (though they didn’t say which summer!)
Good to see Rhosneigr’s Entity back on the circuit, with a recent live session on Neil Crud’s TudnoFM Show and gigs in Bangor and Old Colwyn. They are recording at Orange Studios in April and playing Archie’s, Prestatyn (26th Apr).
Jxhnno from the band also has a side project with Alun Beans and Warby (of The Glitches) called El Borracho and they’re playing The North in Rhyl (May 28th).
Keep an eye out too for Stephanie Finegan who, after a busy year as one half of Glove will be out and about promoting her solo work. She’s playing this month in Wrexham, Manchester and Nottingham, followed by a tour of Germany and Holland in May.
Also adopted (Welsh – sort of) Manchester hardcore punks Eye Licker are gigging everywhere..!!!
