ALBUM REVIEW – Irma Vep – ‘Embarrassed Landscape’
This is essential…
To my contemporaries, ie; those twats I go drinking and swap music with, Irma Vep don’t even enter their sphere. I’d be surprised if they had even heard of this phenomenon, in spite of my beating of the Llanfairfechan drum.
I love Irma Vep anyway – and I love them / him more for releasing this absolute masterpiece of an album.
Pleasing on the ear… Every chord change is what you want to hear… It’s a croon bonanza, bursting with sheer beauty – like a waterfall of delightful sadness.
The tantric mantric King Kong.
The eminence of Standards.
The love of Tears Are The Sweetest Sauce.
The noise of Not Even.
The Brian Jonestown of The Feeling Is Gone.
The late 60s Floydian Disaster.
The Irma Vepness of Purring.
The embellishing repetition of Canary.
Although having spent a king’s ransom on vinyl since live music was stolen from us, I saw this release on Gringo Records and broke the law without hesitation. It’s conventionally unconventional as you’d expect, and an incredible work of art…
10/10…
