GIG REVIEW – Rabo De Toro, Crapsons @ The Albert, Caernarfon
As the song goes… Oh what a night…
Caernarfon is like the film I Am Legend, nothing happens during daylight hours, but once the sun goes down, all the zombies emerge, hungry for flesh (or in this case alcohol and powders)…
This was the first foray into Wales for Crapsons who sprang onto the burgeoning Liverpool scene in January with great impact. This, their 12th gig sees their swiping, but humorous view of scallies and their ilk develop and mutate. The motto of being in a two-piece band is ‘Have 1 litre Corsa, will travel’ and that’s the beauty of it. Add those great songs and great delivery and you have a brilliant package.
Tub thumping stand-up drums from Andy and a very loud distorted bass overlaid with Mark’s shoutyness. We eagerly await their new EP.
Rabo De Toro are well known within these pages and they never fail to impress with their theatrical, genre-less performance. We are dealt a barrage of chest beating faecal matter delivered by the focal pointing Charlie Garlic who grinds, pumps, cavorts and shits his way through the set.
The quiet three at the back made up of Dave, Paul and Duncan are far from quiet as they thrash out operatic-funk-punk-jazz-rock. They challenge Charlie who in turn challenges you, they prod him to prod you… Consider yourself well and truly prodded as the subject matter will leave you questioning EVERYTHING… And so you should…
