New EP – BABY BRAVE – Tacky Birthday
Quite fittingly released within 24 hours of my own birthday, Wrexham’s darlings of pop, Baby Brave release their brand new EP ‘Tacky Birthday.’
Following on from last year’s well received ‘King Horse EP’ début, the band; fronted by Emmi Manteau open up with live favourite Alone In Tokyo which, after one listen will have you humming the bugger all day…
Offering a fuller sound in the production stakes, Tacky Birthday is the latest offering from the fledgling label DrumWithOurHands – and (I believe) their first actual vinyl outing…
Available on glorious 12″ vinyl (fuck downloads – buy vinyl and use the download code – but OWN vinyl..!).They’ve gone to town on this one and town has been painted red, the subtle songs have been beefed up and they bounce out of the speakers
Rock Paper Scissors skips along nicely with simplicity but with a huge Garbage-esq electronic bridge after each verse – great turned up to blistering levels, it’ll set you on fire.
Schinichi Kudo retains that pop feel, but with a big sound – yeah… This is really good… The backing executed with perfection to compliment Emmi’s perfect vocal…
Traxx is typical Baby Brave and builds into a crescendo of colour, and like this entire EP it’s a musical auger that bores a hole into your head and refuses to leave, forever bouncing around your skull.
Mimic My Shins – like Traxx is a new song to me, and all too soon ends this fine release on an up-tempo high – razor sharp lyrics as always and I bet the fuckers were high-fiving each other in the studio once the final mixes were done…
Perfect pop has been taken to a higher level… Fucking brilliant.
Get it here…
