It’s an odd one because I had to deal with the fact some of these guys (maybe all of them) were once in Khagool; one of Wales’ greatest bands that never was from a decade ago. They drowned in a vat of Psilocybin Soup…
I loved Khagool so much, on record they could do no wrong and I still mourn their passing.
So when Dharma Violets sprang up from the fertile land and brought forth this pulsonic kaleidoscopic album I cast a doubtful eye at it and found it hard to get past the opening two tracks. Don’t get me wrong Hypnotonic Wave and Take A Look From The Inside are pretty decent dream catchers, but they were no Khagool.
And that was my problem; I was looking for the ultimate high, not realising that even in psychedelic space. time moves on.
All I had to do was let track two finish and track three begin, Butterfly In A Hurricane is for me when ‘Random Transmissions’ really kicks in; it sweeps, it sways, it’s dreamy and swirly, it’s ace, and then on you are hoisted off into a Dharmanic dream-world of violet colourscape music. It’s like having a smoke with an old friend.
Ignore the corny song titles and let the beauty of this album knock on your door of perception and serve you up your dish of the day with some true anthemic moments and pure magic that trip the light fantastic.
