10″ Single – CULT OF FREE LOVE / THE WRESTLER
A video appeared online a couple of months ago by The Cult Of Free Love called Love Is All There Is and the promise of a full 9 minute 10″ split single to be released in the summer on Deep Distance Recordings.
Now while we may have to wait for summer to begin, the single is here and it was something I most certainly had to add to my collection.
It is dripping in hippy psychedelica, an infectious Primal Scream loaded drum loop and an alluring Middle Eastern sitar that tantalises your senses over and over and over.
It’s so simple yet filled with mystique. Add the topless hippy girl dancing all Tales Of The Unexpected in the video and you have the perfect soundtrack to a summer that never was.
Flip it over and The Wrestler brings us European Orange – totally different to the Free Love but a great accompaniment. Simplistic backing that reminds me of the leftfield projects that would pop up on obscure compilation cassettes given away with even obscurer fanzines in the late 80s. A nice guitar meanders its way through the track and before you know it you’re in there amongst the sounds before everything falls away leaving just a vibrating keyboard, you think it’s over, but it’s not now, it all kicks back in for another welcome round.
Limited to 500 copies and it’s origins in North Wales; this will do nothing but enhance your record collection, although it may be hard to get hold of as I know it’s sold a lot already…
Have fun trying to locate it…
