gwennoYou sometimes get stuff and look at it with discoloured trepidation… I read the news feeds and hear that Gwenno, the shining siren from a trio of sirens called The Pipettes as been on tour in Australia with… Elton John…

So before I clicked ‘play’ I had (as usual) already made my dismissive mind up and was ready to chuck this on the pile of wigs, tiaras, platform shoes and glitter I have piling up in the corner next to the grand piano… Had I not been so quick to jump the starting gun, I’d have been curious enough to enquire why it is on the Peski label… An outfit proud to be slightly different, like people who wear big coats on a hot summers day.. They’re ok, just slightly different…

Chwyldro, like Gwenno; and without trying to be too creepy, is quite simply gorgeous. Very much in the vain of Woman’s Hour who, earlier this year released a sublime single on Parlour Records called To The End.
This track Chwyldro is on a par with that, as in – it’ll knock you out with a psychedelic feather duster. It’s pulsating, it’s soft, it’s hypnotic and dreamy… it’s an aural drug and at over 5 minutes long it causes problems… For me and you (real people), it’s not long enough. For the idiots who put radio shows together it’s more than the permitted 3.20min that daytime shows allow…
This, a precursor to her album due next year, is very much a step in the left direction, and we are stood here (on the left) to welcome Gwenno into the fold.. Welcome aboard, we’re gonna have a great time…

The B-side A B C Ch D follows on in similar fashion, gently lifting you off your couched backside… You can walk, but your feet don’t quite touch the ground… Lovely… As is the R.Seiliog mix of Chwyldro, which nicely wraps things up by throwing colours everywhere…
It’s safe to say that on hearing this, the album is now eagerly anticipated…

Single out on 28th October on Peski records
