R.Seiliog
is/are an entity from Peniel. Now, I’d be really surprised if any of you knew where Peniel is, but let’s put it this way; you’re unlikely to see Judge Dredd tootle past on his megabike in pursuit of the Peniel Bootboys after they’ve just put Mrs Evans’ porch window through with a badly aimed football. Not even that kind of crime happens in this sleepy hamlet.

As kids, we used to push our bikes up Peniel hill, and believe me, it is one helluva hill, just to free wheel all the way down at death defying breakneck speed, with tears driven sideways, cheeks pinned back, g-forced into submission and flies splattered on our foreheads. Once we got to the bottom, we’d do the whole thing again, it was simply a great buzz…

When R.Seiliog’s ‘Shuffles’ EP finished, I got up and put the stylus back on the vinyl and listened to the whole thing again, it is simply a great buzz…

I’m unsure as to whether there is an agenda here or that the oxygen deprivation from being brought up at cloud level in a hamlet too small to be labelled a Gee Geffyl Sbaeneg town has an affect on Robin Edwards, but whatever it is I’m happy he’s warped that way and that Peski Records recognise this.

RseiliogThere are no songs so to speak, Shuffles is like a collection of segues you’ll find on any Hawkwind album; y’know the bit where Dave Brock allows Bob Calvert a quick five minute filler. The EP is a piece of art, from the sleeve to the groove – brimming with simplicity and also a far cry from what you’ll see live. No drums (so to speak), no guitars.. Sturdy Seams / Wingsuit Dreams is just like connecting your bath to the mains and watching the pretty colours blend and bend before your eyes as you fry yourself off this mortal coil.
Crawlback Butterfly and To Be A Sgerbwd are most definitely Hawkwind segue territory – or blip pop-art, and you’re both uplifted and frustrated… Frustrated as you’re wanting it all to kick in and morph into that psychedelic hypno-jam they do so well on stage. This of course doesn’t happen, but the deal is buy this EP (it’s been out a year!) then go and see R.Seiliog in the living flesh…
