Colwyn Bay based Righteous Anger Records & Distribution now have Officer Down‘s second full length album ‘Thrown To The Water’ available by mail order for a bargain £4.50 (inc p+p). The 12 track offering is described as melodic hardcore punk for fans of good fast skatepunk, the label itself says, ‘We fucking love it.’
This follows on from their release of Scarred Society‘s brutal self-titled debut LP last week. Both are available by clicking the pic.
It was Halloween Mayhem at Vegas Bar in Rhyl last night. Chester based Core Promoter, Dan Read said, ‘Who’d have thought one of the best, busiest and craziest Core gigs would be in Rhyl! Epic! Two broken guitars, PA destroyed, a chipped tooth, a split lip…..and that was just the Wolves set!’ He continued, ‘Tonight my faith in local live music was slowly restored. Bands who promote, bring a crowd, help each other out and hang around to watch (and mosh) the other bands. Big thanks to the hard working, local efforts of Ugly Harmonies and Fall To The Sky, and obviously Wolves and the Scottish monsters of Here Lies A Warning!! Awesome night!’
Zebedy from Llandudno headed west for a couple of gigs on Thursday & Friday. First being a Battle of The Bands (tsk!) at The Waterfront in Trearddur Bay and then an Oxjam benefit at Base in Bangor. Guitarist Jonny Lantern said, ‘We played well at T.Bay but the damn public vote was always going to go to the local band Iris 3 who were great. Last night was a bit shit; cool place but 55 people turned up in a 300 at least capacity venue. Plus they were not really a rock metal crowd.’
Pocket Venus have re-released their second single Tell Me Why (on Secrets of Sound) in aid of Help For Heroes. They were interviewed last night on BFBS Radio (listen again). The 3-track single was originally put out in 2002 not long before the band split. They reformed late last year and released a 3rd single Back To Make It Better – they play Wrexham tonight – check website for more info.
Blues legend John Mayall played to a half full (half empty?) Venue Cymru in Llandudno on Wednesday night. The man who influenced Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page wowed gig goer Roy Highton who said, ‘This is proper black Chicago blues stuff by guys who shag cows; they don’t fuck with sheep.’ Roy then popped over to The Park in Colwyn Bay last night to see Jalapenos and tonight will be at Llandudno Junction Labour Club to see Slack Sabbath & Megadeth UK.
Last night also saw Dogbones make the trek up from London to play St Paul’s Hall in Colwyn Bay along with FOE and local anti-heroes Kixxstart Kitty (check out their new EP ‘The Coping Mechanism’ here). Gig organiser Chris Ryan pointed out it was a shame more people did turn out for such a great show, ‘Friday night in the Bay and it was like a one horse ghost town!’
Oh, and the Cockney Rejects played The Tivoli in Buckley last night.. ‘and we’re running down the backstreets oi oi oi!’
No Name Janes from Wrexham are looking for punk girls to appear in a video for their forthcoming single Punk Rock Girlfriend. ‘The pinker the hair, the more tattoos and piercings the better.’ (facebook)
B.B.R. those speeding punks from Rhos-on-Sea have t-shirts available at up ‘n’ coming gigs, next one being a 3 day spectacular in Chester from November 19th in the form of Break Down The Walls Festival (more info).

Bangor’s Parking Non-Stop are playing a two day festival this weekend in the Arctic Circle in the North of Norway, Alan Holmes is complaining about the lack of snow, ‘If I’d wanted grey and wet I’d have stayed in Wales!’
