Capguns @ Bar Blu, Rhyl
(review n pic neil crud)
Take lots of them kids cos the drugs do work. One snort of Capguns and you’re on your way to the musical purgatory that is neither heaven nor hell – or maybe sometimes both. Capguns are the Jekyll and Hyde of music – perhaps taking the term ‘grunge’ beyond known boundaries. From being every inch the caring liberals who deliver sweet shoe-gazing melodies, to the loudest most brutal hardcore racket you’ll hear.
Bar Blu is err… now Rhyl’s premier music venue; and, amid the complaints and sneers, now also run ‘Musical Youth’ nights, so while the underagers are passing the dutchie on the left hand side, Blu are priming them for the future. And they are needed as term time attendances drop dramatically. Having sawn off ‘For Arcade’ off the end of their name, Capguns are here to premiere their brand new ‘Day EP’, which is far more descriptive of their sound than I could ever be. Even chewing a Thesaurus would be of little help in telling you what to expect. Except, it’s very good.
The EP is 30mins long, and for that you get 4 tracks, which is just about what we got here at the ear piercing Blu. From a relaxation tape to a crazed rabid chimp in a cage, this is schitzophrenia by guitar…
More please…
