(review by Legends – click pic)
Often we think of “Death Metal” as being this jacked up speedy music that either completely turns listeners off, or makes for a misunderstood genre that corporate music has created through bands like Metallica (later days), Slip Knot, or even Linkin Park. Then there are bands that respect the categories and stay within it’s realms, even touching on a punk root here and there, whether the band shows appreciation for an influence through the vocals, the fierce riffs, or just damn good timing on some little duct tape drum kit. That misunderstanding I’m referring to is the message so many bands (see above) try to convey, however sell us short even after dropping a cool $15 on what you think will be the album of all albums. Don’t you just hate it when you believe the hype?

Pigstock – an open letter…
Pigstock 2003 will NOT be taking place at The Plas Pigot Country club, Denbigh. Several alternative venues are under consideration and a further announcement will be made as soon as details are finalised.
The Breeding Ground – An Open Letter
The Breeding Ground – an open letter after being blamed by the venue owner for its closure…
TBG Organizers Response To Newspaper Articles in Daily Post, The Visitor and The Journal concerning the closure of The Breeding Ground @ Celebrities. Rhyl.
Once again TBG finds itself on the receiving end of unchecked newspaper reporting. The organizers of TBG are seething at being blamed for the closure of Celebrities in Rhyl, to be also branded as ‘greedy’ is an insult and an outrage! It would appear that Mr. Hughie Shaw in his desperation to regain his entertainments license had to point the finger at anyone and everyone but himself. The fact that newspapers (for the 2nd time this year) ran an article concerning TBG without 1st checking the facts is a disgrace.

Wakestock Cocaine Festival
(by neil crud)
In what was an absurd attack on the hugely successful Wakestock Festival held last weekend near Abersoch the Daily Post newspaper sank into tabloid journalistic hell in a pathetic attempt to boost circulation sales. The headline ‘Cocaine Festival’ greeted readers on Monday morning & the following 2 pages illustrated how shocked reporter Hugo Duncan uncovered ‘Drugs chaos at North Wales surfing event.’ What a pile of complete bollocks. It’s patently obvious this journalist either has aspirations on working for The Sun or thought a rock festival was something Bryn Terfel holds for his opera friends every year.

Pocket Venus @ Zanzibar, Liverpool
(reviewed by Andy Fatman)
“There’s never a dull moment with this band…” muses Mr Crud on the way to “De Pool”. He’s not kidding either …… After putting the previous nights fracas at the Bluetones gig in Bangor behind them, the boys arrive at the venue to be told that they’re on at 8.30pm instead of the agreed 10.00pm slot. The initial heated exchange between band & promoter is resolved with “9.40 is de best I can doo for ya, la”. Happy with this, they decamp to savour the sights of nearby Slater St.
Pocket Venus @ Night & Day, Manchester
The Night & Day always seem to deal Pocket Venus a weak hand & the band always come up trumps. The opening date of the tour to promote the release of the EP that seems to have been out for ever soon has the typical PV dramas turning into crises.
The remainder of this review is to be read in a Channel 4 Geordie style accent.

Breeding Ground Closed by Police
The Breeding Ground in Rhyl was issued with an enforced 24 hour closure warrant by police an hour before the doors were due to open for Casino, Innasense & Homespun‘s live performances. This is the latest in a number of attempts by the police to tackle reported under age drinking at the venue, even though it goes on at all the establishments in the town, TBG crew feel they have been targeted because it is an alternative venue. Ben Jackson of Rhyl band Fudged summed the situation up pretty well when he suggested that now there’ll be 150 kids between the age of 15 & 18 out on the streets, unchecked & drinking & getting into trouble. At least in the venue the security meant that there was very little trouble.
