Loving Cup – Session aired on BBC Radio Wales

This was the first of 2 Adam Walton sessions by the Deeside alt-country band, which is pretty rare as bands rarely get invited for a second session (Loving Cup’s were 5 years apart), mainly because the bands split up.

Tracks : Just Move On / Been Away Too Long / Where I Wanna Be

Liberty 37

It’s been a strange couple of weeks LATBG (Life After The Breeding Ground), lost souls calling The Samaritans, not knowing how to carry on. A special helpline has been set up to aid those suffering from the loss & trauma. The Rastin suggests TBGs closure is a stimulus the area needs as bands were getting lazy & becoming cocooned in Breeding Ground circles, not breaking anywhere else in fear of rejection, or through fear of having to organise something themselves. Now in the era of LATBG the big bad world once again beckons the bands who will have to work that little bit harder to achieve their aims.

Breeding Ground closes

The Breeding Ground as we know it has closed its doors to its present form. Paul Hammond & Steve Buckley picked up the pieces from The Stand that ran at Celebrities Nightspot last year & masterminded a plan to put the area on the map. It didn’t take long; from that opening night which saw Carbonari, Carbon Atom & Fudged grace the stage, the venue went on to host some memorable evenings every fortnight. A total of 18 shows since that February had provided a new lease of life to a decaying town. Bands which really stood out were Carpet, Carbonari, Fudged, Pocket Venus, Fubar & Flinch, but everyone who played there can be proud to say ‘I played there.’

Unfortunately there’ll also be a few of the crowd who could boast that they contributed to the eventual closure of the venue, as Rhyl continues to have an element that will shit in its own back yard & inevitably slip in it. Paul Hammond stated that he felt the nights were getting stale, he had started running at a loss, security was a concern. He did it out of enjoyment & when people started having a go at him when he was making his way home, he realised that it wasn’t worth it.

However, he does have plans to relocate the venue & host shows once a month, ‘less events, more quality,’ is what he told me. A quick look at the link2wales gig guide is testament enough that there is now a gaping void where once the Breeding Ground stood.

Crud Cast 3

(BT Call)
FLINCH – Lucky
CARPET – One Two Fuck You (live)
HYFRYD
SKINFLICK – Two Ton Loser
HOBO – Trencherman

The BT Call is still a favourite clip, a genuine recording of some chimp at BT phoning a very angry Geordie bloke who threatens to sing the caller’s ‘scrawny fucking neck’ – absolute classic.

Flinch were from Wrexham, the track Lucky is prob their best.
The Carpet track was a live recording from The Breeding Ground in Rhyl

FUBAR / FLEA CIRKUS / MARK MOONAN @ Breeding Ground, Rhyl

There’s still plenty of rabbits left in the hat. If you had taken the Internet message boards at face value they had broadcast nothing but doom & gloom for this venue. Since the last gig they have banned under 18s after one of them tried to get home through a stranger’s house having supped the wrong stuff at the Breeding Ground (allegedly). With the CID monitoring the venue because of this incident & under-age drinking everyone had said they’re going to The Dudley tonight, to be fair to the venue under age drinking has never been an issue as the tables occupied by the pre-adults were always drink free.

Crud Cast 2.2

Show 2.2 – broadcast 11.08.01

4Q – Imagine
FRANKS DAD – By My Side
POCKET VENUS – Hear You Calling
SCHAFER – Pieces of My Mind
SONS OF SELINA – From One Dilemma

There was a Show 2, but I don’t know what happened to it – whether it was ever broadcast or what?

I must’ve been a bit short on music to open with 4Q’s Imagine again…
